The benefits of cooking with Turmeric!

If you Google the word Turmeric, you will find numerous articles on the benefits of consuming Turmeric.  You will also find several publicity on Turmeric based vitamins or supplements.  I personally think that if you eat a good variety of fruits & vegetables, limit your fat intake, stay away from sugar (the occasional treat doesn’t hurt) and you drink plenty of water, you should not have to take any supplements or vitamins.  However, the benefits of some herbs & spices can not only spice us a dish, but it can also have an overall positive results on your health.

Lentil Vegetable Soup

Well, the new Canadian Food Guide is out and lentils are on top of the list along with beans & peas!  To be honest, we were huge meat fans in this house.  This changed after my health issues at the end of 2018.  To be able to find alternatives, we turned a lot to protein substitutes, such as lentils.  Furthermore, my son now has a girlfriend and she is vegetarian!  You can imagine my excitement on being able to learn more on vegetarian cuisine and test recipes in my kitchen!  Why not start with a soup that can be a meal?

The benefits of Garlic!

Ah garlic!  I wasn’t a huge fan of garlic… loved the taste but hate having to prep it for use.   I found that it was stinky, sticky and having to peel it and chop it was a waste of time.  So I started buying the pre-chopped one.  To save time prepping, that was amazing.  However, I would be limited on the it’s use.  Not to mention that it was chopped so finely that the minute it would hit the pan it would burn.  Not good! What if you are looking only for the taste?  You can use garlic powder… but you are missing out on several great properties fresh garlic can offer you!
