The benefits of cooking with Turmeric!

If you Google the word Turmeric, you will find numerous articles on the benefits of consuming Turmeric.  You will also find several publicity on Turmeric based vitamins or supplements.  I personally think that if you eat a good variety of fruits & vegetables, limit your fat intake, stay away from sugar (the occasional treat doesn’t hurt) and you drink plenty of water, you should not have to take any supplements or vitamins.  However, the benefits of some herbs & spices can not only spice us a dish, but it can also have an overall positive results on your health.

My pantry is filled with herbs & spices.  One that I use often in soups or to spice up my rice is Turmeric.  What is Turmeric?  According to Wikipedia, Turmeric is a flowering plan of the ginger family.  It can be used fresh, just like ginger or in powder form.

What are the benefits of using Turmeric in my meals?

  • Well, not only does it taste great, but it also gives a vibrant yellow color to your food – Who doesn’t like to have a colorful plate?
  • Apparently, according to several articles I read, Turmeric has an anti-inflammatory effects
  • It is very strong in antioxidant.
  • It improves brain function & memory
  • Lower the risk of heart disease – heart conditions runs in the family, Turmeric is part of our lifestyle since my health issues at the end of 2018
  • It can help prevent Cancer – like any other super food, what you eat may help prevent diseases.
  • Prevents Arthritis – it’s anti-inflammatory effect sure helps
  • May help delay Aging – Who doesn’t want to look young?
  • It is good for the health of your Liver
  • Helps to normalize hormones
  • Prevents Hair Loss – I don’t have that issue with my thick hair!
  • … I could go on & on

In what type of recipe should I use Turmeric?

Turmeric is used in several Asian & Middle Eastern dishes.  It is also used in several different spices blends.

As for me,  I use it in soups, rice & my curries.  However, I am not done experimenting with Turmeric as it gives a savory taste to dishes.  You never know what I may post next!
